How Energy Works...

All Pokemon have 100 energy, and after every combat, unless KOed, it resets back to 100. When dropped so low they cannot use an attack, they use struggle. Struggle has a power of 50, and you take 1/4th recoil damage. If you use an item that increases PP, you give them a standard 20 energy back, or higher, depending on the item.
